The Full Montemarcello, SP, Italy

We visited the historic village of Montemarcello in August during the Liguria dei Red Carpet event.

Montemarcello is about 5km from Lerici, down the coast towards Carrara
Getting around town is easy thanks to handy maps of the sights like this one
The town history

Followed the red carpet down to Panorama Punta Corvo
Bosco enjoyed the magnificent views looking back towards the Golfo dei Poeti
The panoramic view of the Tyrrhenian Sea from Punta Corvo is spectacular
Perched high on a bluff at the end of a peninsula, Montemarcello has views of the Magra river valley and the Apuan Alps as well as back towards the Golfo dei Poeti
These people really know how to live
Torre circolare, the circular tower built by a bishop in 1123

The red carpet ends at Antica Porta, the ancient entrance gate

The 411 hiking trail connects near the Antica Porta, the ancient entrance gate through the old defensive walls

This beautiful courtyard has some significance that it escapes me now
Jeff and Bosco in Piazza XIII Dicembre
Piazza XIII Dicembre is spacious with people relaxing on cafe patios and tantalizing glimpses of the sea
It’s plain to see why this village is on the Borghi Piu Bella d’Italia list

The 433 hiking trail is Bosco’s favourite, connecting back to Lerici. One can also take an alternate route to La Serra and end up up the hill from our house via the 411/422
Cool dudes heading back down and out of town

Good boy, Bosco! Now I want to check it out. The 433 you say… is that my trail from la Fortezza della Solitudine?

It is indeed! Fair warning though: it’s around 5km as the crow flies but a much longer trail hike. Tellaro is only about a third of the way there, but you can drive it in 25 minutes or so.

Perhaps! They’re putting up the many strings of lights over the walking streets of Lerici this week
