The wines of Castiglione Falletto and Barolo, Piemonte, Italy

The beautiful hilly landscape south of Turin is home to vineyards that produce some of the finest wines in Italy (and the world). Spending a couple nights in Castiglione Falletto and tasting the local varieties is perhaps the truest embodiment of “La Vita Dolce” one can experience – delizioso! Piemonte’s wine country is also a bit more relaxed and less touristy than Tuscany’s, with beautiful towns to visit and walks to explore.

Here it is from the ground
Hills dotted with towns, this one is Castiglione Falletto
Grapes, possibly Nebbiolo
Hiking beauties
The view from Locanda del Centro
Awesome hotel and restaurant!
The view from below Vietti’s production facilities
Lots to see
Such a beautiful place
Nothing like a stroll through the vineyards
Extra fun to go with a pack
Castle of Castiglione Falletto
There’s a pretty church on the other side
Heavenly wine tasting at the Cantina Comunale
This is where we tasted the wines, looking out over the landscape
The tastings at the cantina are actually full glasses of wine at the Cantina Comunale, served by friendly people, with cheeses and salamis available too
It’s a very relaxing place, whether you’re drinking wine or not
One night the Alba horns, drums and flags showed up and performed
It’s a quick jaunt from Castiglione Falletto over to the home of the “King of Wines”, Barolo. It’s more touristy and expensive to stay there, but lovely and worth a visit
Heading in to check out Barolo
Nice place for lunch
Opulent Barolo

There are big colourful wolves all over the place in Barolo. At first Bosco was scared of them, but then he started doing impressions

Love all the photos – We just came back from Italy and we went on a winery tour in Chianti with our dog. I’d love to include a link to your post so that people can see how many great dog friendly activities there to do!
