The Etruscan Necropolis of Puntone

The mysterious ancient Etruscan people created the tombs of the necropolis of Puntone  about 2700 years ago. It’s definitely off the beaten tourist track, but just a short drive from Saturnia and quite a fascinating place to visit. As we were the only people there and it’s well into the woods off the road, we let Bosco run free. At first he was a little skittish (perhaps due to the scents of wild Tuscan animals, or else the scary tombs) but then he had a whale of a time!

Here’s the entrance, on the side of a dirt road

Beautiful and mysterious trees

Bosco was initially puzzled by the tombs

Here he and Jeff are in the entryway to one. Most of the rooves have long since collapsed

Not too sure about this

Bosco worked up his courage and was sniffing around the roof, only to be startled by Fran poking around the interior

You should! It’s wonderful. There are quite a few Necropoli sites around, many more touristy than this one, and lots of other cool stuff to see too πŸ˜€
